Latest FDNY probie class boasts 4 women, increase of 10 percent

The number of female firefighters in the city just jumped by 10 percent.

Four women were among the 286 graduates of the FDNY Academy Tuesday — and they received the loudest applause at a Brooklyn ceremony attended by Mayor de Blasio.

Giselle King, Vanessa Schoening, Antoinette Proctor and Charlotte Shannon said they were able to make it through training by leaning on one another.

Fire officials hope to more than double the percentage of minorities in the FDNY to 38 percent by 2021, while bringing in more women.

Only 41 of the 7,632 city firefighters are female.
