Penguin Random House moves forward with promotions

Marcus Dohle, the CEO of the newly combined Penguin Random House operation, has awarded the top communications job to the Penguin side of the house. Claire von Schilling will be the new senior vice president, director of corporate communications and branding.

Stuart Applebaum, the longtime Random House spokesman, will become emeritus executive vice president, corporate communications.

“It’s a great move forward for all of us,” said Applebaum, who has a total of 43 years with Random House and its predecessor companies going back to Bantam and then to Bantam Doubleday Dell.

“Claire is leading our communications going forward, but I am not retiring,” he said

Applebaum proved he was still on the job Friday by releasing the company’s half- year financial results.

Penguin Random House was formed last year when Britain’s Pearson and Germany’s Bertelsmann decided to combine their US operations into one behemoth.
