There’s nothing funny about anti-Semitism, says a longtime TV comedy writer and college professor who alleges NYU discriminated against her because of her religion.
Mollie Fermaglich, 61, says when she protested working on Passover, a colleague asked, “Just how Jewish are you?” according to her Manhattan Federal Court lawsuit against the Greenwich Village college.
Despite 20 years at NYU and a TV career working with Jerry Seinfeld, William Shatner, Rita Rudner, Jackie Mason and others, Fermaglich claims she was repeatedly passed over for promotion in favor of younger, male, non-Jewish teachers.
Fermaglich is seeking $12 million in damages.
An NYU spokesman said Fermaglich still teaches full-time at the school, and the university “believes the facts demonstrate that there is no basis for her allegations.”
