Ron Darling not happy being on Mets fan loyalty letter

Ron Darling said he was caught off guard by the marketing letter with his name on it asking fans to pledge their support to the Mets entering the Subway Series.

The SNY analyst and former Mets pitcher told WFAN he blamed himself for not going over the letter, which has come under heavy criticism from fans and the media, before putting his signature on it.

“I didn’t do my due diligence to read what went out,” said Darling, one of 10 former Mets who are part of the campaign. “It’s on me. It’s not on anyone else. I put my name on it. I put my likeness on it. I have to live with it.”

Darling said he also feels the Mets need to work on their relationship with their loyal and disillusioned fan base.

“It seems like everything that comes out from the Mets is looked at poorly,” Darling said. “I just think that there has to be a re-evaluation of the disconnect and how to reconnect to how [fans] feel and what [the team] is trying to do.”
