Golf writer Mark Cannizzaro provides his picks for the PGA Championship, which tees off Thursday at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.:
Rory McIlroy: Hard to avoid the chalk pick this week. Fresh off his British Open win and last week’s win at Firestone, McIlroy is on a roll that looks difficult to stop. The Tiger Woods-like dominance carries on as he wins his fourth career major.
Sergio Garcia: No one in the field is more due for a win than Garcia, who finished runner-up at both the British Open and Bridgestone. In all this season, he has three seconds and two third-place finishes. The question is whether he can close one of these out — particularly a first career major championship win.
Rickie Fowler: Another player who is scalding hot right now with confidence riding high. Fowler is contending every time out and this week could be his time to win a first major.
Ryan Moore: Enters the week with three top-10 finishes in his last four starts with the only non-top-10 his tie for 12th at the British. He’s an under-the-radar player who could surprise this week.
Graeme McDowell: He has not won on the PGA Tour this year (he has one European Tour win), but he has been as consistent as anyone, with top-10s in his last three starts.
