Nearly 20,000 NYC families got first-choice pre-K options

Close to 20,000 families landed their top choice for full-day pre-kindergarten public-school slots for next year — about 5,000 more than last year, officials said Thursday.

An additional 6,000 families were matched to half-day programs.

With more than 41,000 applications for some 26,000 total slots, that still left 15,000 families temporarily without a public-school seat.

While many families got their first choice, many didn’t, Mayor de Blasio said at a pre-K event in Brooklyn. “But, of course, they have a lot of other options.”
