Geno Smith sees Jets as Super Bowl contender: ‘Why not us?’

Geno Smith and the Jets finished 8-8 last season, but the second-year quarterback says he likes their chances this season — though he stopped short of the kind of guarantee that has come from Gang Green coach Rex Ryan in past years.

Smith was feeling confident during his youth football camp in Miramar, Fla., the quarterback’s hometown.

“I feel good about our team making a Super Bowl run. … You know, why not us?” Smith said, according to NFL Network.

Smith, coming off a rookie season in which he committed 25 turnovers and was the lowest-rated passer in the NFL despite a strong final month, recently was voted last among the league’s 32 starting quarterbacks in an ESPN poll.
