Counterfeit bills were hidden in Barney bag at JFK

These criminals sure didn’t learn from Barney.

A bag with the creepy dinosaur’s face was one of dozens of trinkets used to stash a fat stack of counterfeit cash with a face value of $210,500 that was seized by border patrol officers at JFK last week.

The shipment arrived in NYC last Friday. A US Customs and Border Protection officer “eyeballed these particular packages” that came in from Ecuador, according to Anthony Bucci, a spokesman for the agency.

Disguised as a “Handycrafts Pictures” shipment, the tchotchkes and laminated photos of scenic mountain ranges were loaded with bogus $100 bills taped to the back.

A second box came through the next day with more fake Benjamins, bringing the total to 2,105 bills.

The US Customs and Border Protection officers confiscated the photos along with one electronic case and three brightly colored organizer bags.

No arrests have been made yet, but Bucci said everything is “slated for destruction” after the investigation wraps up.
