Drake’s pitch to Kevin Durant gets Raptors fined $25K

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to have Drake as one of your biggest fans.

The rapper tried to help recruit Kevin Durant to the Raptors during a concert that the Thunder superstar attended last week.

Drake, a Toronto native, was named a Raptors ambassador last season to help entice big stars like Durant north of the border.

“I just want to show one of my brothers something,” Drake said at the Toronto concert.

“You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.”

Durant, though, won’t be a free agent until 2016 and the NBA apparently has taken notice of Drake’s efforts. According to ESPN.com, the team was fined $25,000 for the public recruiting pitch, which was deemed to be tampering.

Durant has said in the past he grew up a Raptors fan and had dreamed of playing for the franchise. But most don’t expect the Raptors to be a main player in the sweepstakes for the superstar. The Thunder and Durant’s hometown Wizards are considered the favorites to land him.
