The World Cup’s top 6 fashion moments (so far)

Every four years, the world spends exactly four weeks watching Planet Earth’s Most Beautiful Men face off in gloriously beautiful, emotionally-wrought, die-hard soccer matches to win the World Cup.

Equally captivating are the fashion statements the players rock on the field: OTT (over the top!) hairstyles are a given, as are bright hues, flashy accessories and maybe even a headband or two.

But who has the most sartorial game?

Now that each team has had a chance to debut their looks on what’s arguably soccer’s biggest runway, click through to see our six favorite fashion moments from the World Cup — so far:

Best color coordination

It’s hard to pick just one, given each team’s penchant for eye-popping color, but Australia gets the win for its sunny yellow jerseys, color-blocked with asphalt green shorts. Even the players are psyched about it.

The Ghana uniform calls for close inspection in order to fully appreciate its subtle but festive flair: The neckline and sleeves are trimmed with stars and squiggles in the country’s signature red, yellow and green hues.

The little soccer ball stitched over the heart of each jersey is a nice touch, too.

Best socks

Iran’s white, red and green striped situation packs a major punch in action-filled photo ops like this.

Best shoes

Different colored cleats: It’s a thing. Just ask Italy’s flashiest forward, Mario Balotelli. He and a slew of other ’ballers are rocking Puma’s tricked-out pink and blue “Tricks,” a new style of boots released just for the 2014 Cup.

Best accessory

Cristiano Ronaldo’s initialed backpack: As if we need a reminder who this soccer stud is. Though including his jersey number prevents confusing Portugal’s superstar forward with the only other “CR” who matters . . . former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld.

Best all around style

Brazil’s It boy Neymar has got some serious game: Who else looks this chic recovering from a tumble? Between his golden hair, the bad-boy tats and the fact that he’s rocking the host country’s hues, we give this footballer’s look a 10.
