Celebs turn into hair chameleons for spring

For celebrities, it seems like spring fever is going straight to the head — specifically, the hair. Let’s examine some of the sprightliest looks topping famous faces, starting with the color craze. Apparently, a fresh ’do is to dye for.

Orange is the new blond

Kristen Stewart, fresh off the buzz from her leaked Chanel campaign, in which she rocks cornrows, grabbed attention earlier this week when New Orleans-based hair salon Maison de Cheveux posted an Instagram photo of her with orangey-red tresses with the caption, “Kristen Stewart gettin her hair ready for a new role! #americamultra #awesomecolor #houseofhair.”

But Kate Bosworth beat her to the (tropical) punch: Last month, the historically blond actress did the same for her upcoming role in “Still Alice.”

And wouldn’t you know? A model pioneered the trend. Molly Sims, a natural brunette-turned-blonde, dyed her hair Jessica Rabbit-red back in February. “I wanted to be vibrant, and I wanted a change,” Sims told People.

But blondes still have more fun

Just ask funny woman Kristen Wiig, who this week colored her chocolatey-brown bob a light blond.

Maggie Gyllenhaal obviously got the memo, since almost simultaneously the actress debuted a platinum pixie while in Cannes on the press trail for her upcoming show “The Honourable Woman.”

Last week, new mom Jennifer Love Hewitt stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres show to reveal a post-baby makeover that entailed a switch from dark brown to honey.

Except when they go brunette

Case in point: Margot Robbie. At the Oscars in March, the “Wolf of Wall Street” trophy wife shook things up with a sultry shade of brown.

And just when we were getting used to Kim Kardashian’s blond locks, the reality star returned to her brown roots, which she revealed to the world via Instagram in February. “I’m back,” read the caption.

And nothing says spring more than pastel

No one knows this more than Lauren Conrad. The former reality star has made dyeing her blond hair pink an annual event. She did it 2012, 2013, and again just this week. “A pink locks kind of day . . . ”  she wrote on Instagram with a photo of her confectionery tresses.

Nicole Richie took the colored-hair leap last month, turning her natural brown head into a lovely lilac lollipop.

Around the same time in March, model Ireland Baldwin went purple, but fast-forward just a few weeks later and she was cotton candy blue.

Except green

Which means Katy Perry, who showed off some bold green hair on Instagram this week (some call it “slime,” but I’m dubbing it a more spring-appropriate “mantis”), takes the frosted-hair cake.

The spring haircut front has been less lively, but here are some ladies flaunting fresh chops.

Taylor Swift seemed so dedicated to her long-hair-and-bang thing that it came as a pleasant surprise when she showed up to the ACM awards this week with a shorter length and fringe swooped to the side.

Bangin’

Earlier this week, Mindy Kaling went on “Chelsea Lately” to boast a newly clipped style; she posted her look on Instagram with the caption “Summer bangs!”

Last month, Katie Holmes added a little edge to her typically straight-and-narrow coif with a new set of bangs (last seen in 2008, when she had a bob), which popped up in a photo she took with Minnie Mouse on a Disney World excursion with Suri.
