Rays trade David Price to Tigers in three-team deal

The Tampa Bay Rays have traded ace David Price to the Tigers in a three-team deal that also included the Mariners.

The Post was the first to report Price would be on the move.

Detroit now has another top arm to join Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer atop their rotation, allowing them to keep pace in an arms race with the league-leading Oakland A’s.

The Tigers sent left-hander Drew Smyly to the Rays along with minor-league shortstop Willy Adames. The Rays also get Nick Franklin from the Mariners, who added Detroit’s Austin Jackson.

The Rays, at 53-55, are in fourth place in the AL East, eight games back of the Orioles. They are 5.5 games out of wild-card position. Moving Price would not completely douse their postseason aspirations.

The Price blockbuster adds to a busy deadline day that has seen Jon Lester go to the A’s for Yoenis Cespedes and the Cardinals acquire John Lackey.
