City has dug up 300 corpses trying to find lost body

The city Medical Examiner’s office has exhumed some 300 corpses from a Bronx potter’s field in its bid to locate the body of a woman who committed suicide last year, a source said.

The corpse of Rebecca Alper, 71, went unclaimed and was believed to have been interred in a city burial ground on Hart Island, The Post first reported last week.

The embarrassing loss has led to a Department of Investigation probe, sources said.

Diane Struzzi, a DOI spokeswoman, declined to comment.
