Derek Fisher, set to be announced Tuesday as the new coach of the Knicks, is expected to hire triangle offense guru Kurt Rambis as his top assistant, according to a source.
The Knicks already have asked the Lakers for permission to speak with Rambis, who coached Fisher and still is under contract as a Lakers assistant.
Fisher also may tab a couple of former Lakers teammates in Rick Fox, who said Monday he interviewed for the head job, and Luke Walton, a player developmental coach with the D-League’s Los Angeles Defenders.
Phil Jackson’s former trusty assistant Jim Cleamons, now a Bucks assistant, has yet to be approached. Bill Cartwright interviewed with Jackson for an assistant’s job. Jackson has said he’ll have input into the coaching staff.
