StockTwits snags ex-Yahoo CEO Ross Levinsohn for board

StockTwits, an Internet upstart devoted to stock market junkies, has landed former Yahoo! CEO Ross Levinsohn for its board of directors.

StockTwits is run by CEO John Melloy, a former executive producer of CNBC in charge of shows “Fast Money” and “Halftime Report.”

CNBC sued Melloy, who left the financial news network last October after seven years, claiming he was bolting for a rival venture. The two ended up settling the dispute.

StockTwits apes Twitter in some ways in that it lists short posts about stock activity. It also trades some of its data activity to financial players such as hedge funds and brokers.

“The idea for the site is that we’re for hardcore investors and traders,” said Melloy. “We’re for people who just want to talk stocks.”

The company is said to have notched one million unique page views in July, according to internal info obtained by The Post.

Levinsohn, who most recently ran Guggenheim Digital Media, is a digital veteran who serves on the board of a number of media and Internet companies.
