Sex & Relationships

This week’s couple has a missing ingredient

The name of Chef Fed’s cooking class in Soho is Sex on the Table, but when Austin, 25, and Kelly, 28, arrived for their lesson, they realized the title was tongue-in-cheek. The couple got to know each other — while keeping their clothes on — and learned the proper way to handle a knife and to plate food. But as it turns out, neither of them had the recipe to make something special happen between them.

He said:

I did a double-take when I met Kelly. Her beauty, charm and infectious laugh instantly made me feel both anxious and elated.

Chef Fed’s Soho loft was a gorgeous space: It was dimly lit, wine bottles lined the walls and young couples slowly filed in, eager to cook.

Kelly dazzled me with her knife skills and the delicate way she plated our dishes. Our brioche puddings were baked before we knew it, and the crowd began to thin.

We left and strolled through the rain. As we arrived at her subway station, she held out her hand and thanked me for my interesting questions.

I’d say the date was a success and I hope she felt the same.

She said:

I became jittery when it finally hit me that I would be on a blind date in the company of others. But Austin said if I was nervous, I didn’t need to be.

Chef Fed was amazing! The venue was set up to feel like a bunch of friends getting together to drink wine and cook as a group. Austin was friendly, chatting with anyone he met in the room, which I found attractive. As for cooking, I took the lead, but Austin did a good job plating.

After the date, Austin walked me to the subway in the pouring rain. He asked if he could see me again. I said yes, but only as friends. We got along well and had a nice conversation, but I only see him as a friend. We did not exchange numbers.
