Family of 5 found shot dead in a Virginia home

CULPEPER, Va. — Police say a family of five, including three children, has been found shot to death at a home.

Detective Angela Deavers with the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office says the victims were two adults, both 35 years old, and three children. Deavers says a family member discovered the bodies inside a house just outside Culpeper. The town of about 15,000 people 70 miles southwest of Washington is known for its quaint downtown and Civil War history.

Deavers says two of the children were elementary school-aged and the third was middle school-aged.

Deavers says deputies arrived at the scene around 10 p.m. Sunday, after the relative found the bodies.

She says the shootings are being treated as homicides. Police have not said whether they are searching for a suspect.
