Vikings star rescues two boaters ‘scary close to the rocks’

A couple who were out house-gazing on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota will never forget Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway.

The two-time Pro Bowler happened to be on the scene when two boaters lost the ability to steer their boat and became stuck, forcing the newly purchased craft to go around and around in circles. Subsequently, they started drifting “scary close to the rocks” when Greenway came to the rescue and hopped into the water, helping corral the boat and bringing it to safety in an inlet, then waiting with the couple until help arrived.

“I just ran down, of course with my two little girls following behind me, trying to stay out of the way, and I figured I’d help them out. It looked like it was dangerous,” Greenway told KARE 11 in Minnesota.

The couple — Crystal and Edward Alexis — had just purchased the boat the day before.

“We were looking at all the beautiful houses and all of a sudden the steering wheel wouldn’t turn and we were going in circles,” Crystal said. “It just got scary close to the rocks.”

As you can see from the images and video, it was a pretty wild scene.

The 2006 first-round draft pick even gave the wet couple a lift to their car when it was all said and done. Way to go, Greenway. Tip of the cap for the heroic effort.
