FX renews ‘Fargo’ and ‘Louie’

FX is headed back to “Fargo.”

The network has renewed the limited series for a second season, featuring a new cast of characters in a new time period with a new “true crime” story.

Noah Hawley will return as writer and executive producer of the next 10-episode installment.

“Fargo,” which was adapted from the Coen Brothers film, recently earned 18 Emmy nominations — the most ever for an FX program — including best miniseries.

The first installment starred Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman and averaged 3.8 million viewers.

The cast and premiere date for its second season are to be announced.

FX also on Monday renewed “Louie” for an abbreviated seven-episode fifth season.

The Louis CK comedy will return in spring 2015.
