Taped recant blind-sides prosecutors at former coach’s rape trial

The trial of a former Manhattan girls high-school basketball coach accused of raping his three young nieces and hoarding kiddie porn on his computer was thrown into turmoil Monday when his daughter revealed she’d taped one of the alleged victims confessing that she’d made up the story and was told how to lie.

“I wanted to get to the bottom of this,” Lorin Dixon, 24, a UConn hoop star, told a Queens jury as she dropped the bombshell during her testimony in defense of dad Kerbet Dixon, a former Murry Bergtraum HS volunteer coach.

“I took [her] upstairs and I taped an interview with her,” Dixon said of her then 10-year-old cousin. “It was just the two of us. I had all the questions written down, and I told her to just tell the truth.”

Blindsided prosecutors were never told about the tape.

Lorin claims she made the recording of in December 2011 at a family party and gave it to her dad six months ago. Kerbet Dixon, 49, was arrested in July 2011.

“I’m very concerned of the integrity of this case,” Judge Richard Buchter said, after ordering jurors out of the courtroom. “If the complainant recanted, you need to investigate.”
