BENSALEM, Pa. — Traffic accidents involving multiple tractor trailers and dozens of cars have completely blocked one side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike outside Philadelphia and caused some injuries.

The crashes were reported just after 8 a.m. Friday, one day after the area got about a foot of snow that left roads slick.

Television news helicopter footage showed several tractor-trailers and dozens of cars involved in a series of accidents that had backed up traffic for miles between the Bensalem and Willow Grove exits.

Turnpike spokesman Bill Capone tells WPVI-TV that some injuries had been reported but are said to be minor. He says state police and other personnel are trying to attend to anyone injured and reopening the road will take a while.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes and expect heavy delays.
