A young boy fell off his scooter and was struck by a Parks Department van in Morningside Park on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Witnesses said the unidentified boy, who appeared to be about 6 years old, tumbled from his scooter into a roadway in the park near Manhattan Avenue and West 113th Street about 4:50 p.m.
The slow-moving van ran over his leg and he was taken to Harlem Hospital for treatment of a leg fracture, witnesses and police said.
Police said there was no criminality.
A woman who was nearby said the van was being safely driven.
“I’m here in the park every day, walking my dog. They’re always safe, they always take care of where they’re going.
They’re very child-friendly and very serious about their work,” said the unidentified woman.
Parks workers at the scene declined comment.
