Beyoncé set to perform, receive Vanguard Award at VMAs

Beyoncé and Jay Z’s marriage may be reportedly on the rocks, but that isn’t keeping her out of the spotlight.

The current Mrs. Carter has been set to perform at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, the network confirmed Thursday, and will also be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the Aug. 24 ceremony. The award, formerly called the Lifetime Achievement Award, is given for making an overall powerful effect on MTV culture.

Beyoncé — who leads the pack with eight VMA nominations this year, including best female video, best choreography and video of the year — joins a list of previous Vanguard recipients including Madonna, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

It will be the fourth time she has taken the stage for a VMAs performance, after “Ring the Alarm” in 2006, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) in 2009 and the pregnancy announcement heard ’round the world during “Love on Top” in 2011.

Other performers lined up for the evening include Usher, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer and Maroon 5.

The VMAs will air live from the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on Aug. 24 at 9 p.m.
