Renowned artist killed when motorcycle slams into him near his home

An Upper West Side artist and longtime college professor was identified on Monday as the pedestrian fatally struck by a motorcyclist just steps from his home.

Tom McAnulty, 73, was crossing West 96th Street at Amsterdam Avenue on Thursday night when he was hit by the unidentified rider of a 1999 Ducati sport bike at around 5 p.m., according to police.

McAnulty, an accomplished sculptor who lived less than a block away, suffered severe head trauma and was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he passed away on Friday.

The crash is being investigated, but police said the motorcyclist remained at the scene.

McAnulty, who served as professor emeritus of art and art history at Adelphi University on Long Island, will be memorialized Friday at Riverside Memorial Chapel on the Upper West Side.

McAnulty’s wife, Mary, recalled Monday how the grandfather of four touched countless lives during his 30-year career.

“My concern is that my husband of 45 years is dead, and so many people needed him other than myself,” she said.
