California skaters turn quake-damaged roads into playland

California skateboarders took advantage of the earthquake damage Sunday, turning raised sidewalks and buckled roadways into ramps and jumps.

While governor Jerry Brown was declaring a state of emergency following the 6.0 magnitude, the largest to hit the San Francisco Bay area in 25 years, a group of skaters made the best out of a bad situation and used the destruction of their Napa neighborhood to catch some air, AFP reports.

The kids took to the cracked pavement as if they were at a local skate park and proceeded to soar through the sky after launching themselves off the elevated roads and walkways.

Ryan Young can be seen nailing a classic skateboarding trick known as an “ollie” over a fractured piece of sidewalk.

His brother, Chris Young, busts a similar move, but appears to fly even higher through the air as he grips the board beneath him.

At least 120 people were injured during the earthquake which ignited fires, damaged businesses and left countless stocks of wine bottles in the notorious $13 billion Napa valley wine industry battered and broken.
