The driver picked up the deadbeat on Madison Avenue in Manhattan at about 8 p.m. Wednesday and took him to 710 Tinton Ave., police said.

At the destination, the passenger told the 47-year-old driver that a woman would be emerging from a building to pay the fare, cops added.

The cabby locked the thug in the car until the girlfriend came out, but then the thief told the woman not to hand over any cash and they began walking off, police said.

The driver followed the couple and tried to snap a photo of the fare-beater, but the thug punched him in the face, cops said.

The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, officials said.

The suspect stands about 5-foot-6 and weighs 160 pounds, and was last seen wearing a puffy jacket.

â–  Police have identified the suspect in connection with the robbery of a woman in University Heights.

Stephanie Watson, 42, allegedly approached a 54-year-old woman in a Chase Bank vestibule at West Burnside and Jerome avenues at about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 12, police said.

Watson allegedly put an unknown object to the back of the victim’s head and demanded cash, cops said.

The woman, who had withdrawn $1,000, struggled with Watson but the thief managed to grab the money, police said.

The victim was not injured, officials said. Cops are still looking for Watson.

The same bank branch was targeted in a robbery last Dec. 26, when James Torres, 44, stole an iPhone and a wallet from a 24-year-old man waiting for a bus in the vestibule.

The victim in that case flagged down cops, who got into a struggle with the armed suspect before shooting him in the chest.

Torres died later that day at St. Barnabus Hospital.
