CBS employee fighting for life after hit by car while jaywalking

A CBS employee was hit by a car while jaywalking in Midtown Wednesday and is in critical condition, police sources said.

Landal Hoilette, 70, who lives in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, was crossing West 57th Street near 11th Avenue at 1:50 p.m. when a 31-year-old woman driving a black Nissan Altima struck him, according to police.

He was rushed to New York Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

No criminality is suspected at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

It’s unclear what Hoilette does for CBS. The network did not return a request for comment.

Hoilette’s son said that his father was on his way to lunch when he was struck.

“He was hurt bad. All we know was he was under the car and they had to get him out,” said Keith Crawford, 52. “We saw him in the hospital. They had to sedate him. His niece is staying with him.”

Hoilette’s neighbor Serge Calata, 52, said he is “such a nice man. It’s a shame. He had a ton of energy. Always happy, always smiling, and looked a lot younger than his years.”

Another neighbor, who declined to be named, said Hoilette has lived in the apartment for years.

She said two younger men stopped by the apartment on Wednesday afternoon and when they left, one of the men looked distraught.

The incident comes in the wake of several pedestrian deaths on the Upper West Side and an ensuing NYPD crackdown on jaywalkers and drivers.

ABC News correspondent Brian Ross struck a jaywalking pedestrian outside the network’s studios near West 67th Street on Sunday evening.

The victim, a former taxi driver, suffered a broken arm.
