Dog shot during shotgun attack expect to recover

A dog wounded by an elderly man who shot and killed his daughter in Queens is making a miraculous recovery, officials said.

Jack, a 6-year-old male Yorkshire Terrier, was wounded by Jack Calvello, 86, during a shotgun attack on his daughter at his Astoria home, said cops. Carolann Matyka, 65, was killed in the bloody rampage, which ended Saturday when cops shot Calvello to death outside the two-story home.

Officials said Calvello, who was wielding a 12-gauge shotgun, ignored warnings to drop his weapon.

The dog was shot in the neck and suffered a severe laceration.

His condition was upgraded Sunday to stable. He is being treated at the ASPCA Animal Hospital.
