State bans tattoos for dogs and cats

Better hold off on that tramp stamp for your pooch.

Vain pet owners are about to lose the right to tattoo their cats and dogs, after the state Senate voted unanimously Wednesday to ban the practice.

State Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal called the practice a “misguided extension” of what skin-art enthusiasts are doing to their own bodies.

“To subject the animals to unnecessary painful procedures to satisfy the owners’ fancy is . . . reprehensible,” she said. She sponsored the bill three years ago when she saw videos of a woman selling kittens with jewelry piercings on YouTube.

It stalled until The Post reported recently that the owner of a Brooklyn tattoo shop had inked his puppy while she underwent surgery.

The Assembly has already passed the bill, and Gov. Cuomo is expected to sign it into law.
