TLC wants to make half its green taxis accessible for disabled

The Taxi and Limousine Commission has proposed making half its green cabs wheelchair-accessible within the next decade, sources told The Post Wednesday.

The proposal was contained in a draft accessibility plan that was submitted to the City Council.

The TLC is calling for raising the percentage of green taxis that are wheelchair-accessible when two batches of 6,000 green-taxi permits are approved in 2014 and 2015.

“Upon initial review, this looks like a great plan for New Yorkers with disabilities,” said the council’s Transportation Committee head, Ydanis Rodriguez.

A spokesman for the TLC declined to comment.
