T’wolves owner: Here’s when Love ‘likely’ will be traded

As the Cavaliers hem and haw about whether they will deal Andrew Wiggins, the Timberwolves are now saying Kevin Love is “most likely” gone — and they will even give an approximate date of his departure.

Saturday, Minnesota owner Glen Taylor told the Pioneer Press the team expects a trade to happen “because Kevin has made it pretty clear that that’s what he wants to do.”

Taylor anticipates Love, an aggrieved three-time All-Star, will be shipped somewhere Aug. 23 or Aug. 24. That estimation seems to have been carefully calculated, and much to Cleveland’s liking — the Cavaliers cannot deal Wiggins until Aug. 23, after he signed a deal with Cleveland on July 24.

Love reportedly has been clamoring for a change of scenery for quite some time, and has told the Timberwolves that if he’s kept, he will sign elsewhere as a free agent after the season.

While he’s been publicly quiet, his best attempt at being noncommittal fell flat recently, telling ESPN about the trade rumors, “Uh, you know, my agent is handling everything at this point. I’m hoping that everything works out for all parties involved.”

The Cavs have had a busy offseason. After nabbing the heralded Wiggins with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft and (don’t know if you’ve heard) signing LeBron James, they’ve cleared enough cap space to potentially take on Love, a favorite of James, and a player he’s already reached out to about joining him in Cleveland.
