Avonte Oquendo’s mother sues City

The mother of Avonte Oquendo slapped the city and nine school officials with a multi-million dollar lawsuit, blaming them for her son’s wrongful death.

Vanessa Fontaine, the 14-year-old boy’s mother, formally filed a lawsuit in Queens Supreme Court last week pointing the finger at school safety agent Bernadette Perez, Principal Susan McNulty and others for negligence.

Avonte Oquendo was seen on surveillance video running the supervised halls of The Center Boulevard school on October 4 and leaving the building.

His body was found three months later on a Queens beach.

Fontaine’s attorney, David Perecman didn’t feel the proper questions were asked to everyone involved and wants a thorough investigation.

The lawsuit doesn’t state a dollar amount for damages, but Perecman said the family seeks $25 million.
