Young mom’s remains found in Long Island woods

A body found in the woods in Suffolk County was identified Friday as that of a young mother of a 4 year old who had gone missing a week earlier after a night visiting friends, WABC TV reported.

The remains of Sarah Goode, 21, were found in the woods in Medford, not far from where her abandoned BMW was found Sunday after her family reported that she had not been seen for two days.

A team of civilian volunteers searching the woods, found the body about 6 p.m. Thursday and called 911.

“I walked into the woods and smelled a very foul smell,” volunteer David Zornes told the station.

Detective Lt. Kevin Beyrer, the commanding officer of the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad, called the death a homicide — though cops as of yet have not said whether they have a suspect in mind.

“This is an active investigation. We’re conducting it as a homicide investigation,” he said.

Cops said the young mom had watched a movie on TV with pals last Friday night, though they didn’t disclose her movements after that.

Her older sister called police Sunday about 9 p.m. and her car was found about an hour later with no signs of damage or violence.

Goode worked in a medical office and left behind a 4-year-old daughter.

“She was God-given … Heartbreaking!” said Crystal Ryan, one of Goode’s friends.
