Groban will host singing show ‘Rising Star’

Josh Groban will host “Rising Star,” ABC’s new summer singing talent show, the network announced Friday.

Joining Groban on “Rising Star” — which premieres Sunday, June 22 — will be judges Kesha, Brad Paisley and Ludacris.

On the show, adapted from Israeli TV, viewers will vote for their favorites in real time via an App, in order to determine which singer will continue on to the next round.

During the show, each performer can also see how viewers are voting — ratcheting up the tension.

“Rising Star” is executive-produced by former “American Idol” EP Ken Warwick — and joins “Idol” and “The Voice” on the current roster of TV singing competition shows.

Ludacris is hosting the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, which air this Sunday on ABC; on that telecast, he’ll be joined by Groban, Paisley and Kesha to promote “Rising Star.”
