The New Jersey teen who famously sued her parents for child support after moving out of their home has secured a temporary restraining order against the boyfriend her parents begged her to stop dating.
Rachel Canning, 18, of Lincoln Park accused Lucas Kitzmiller, 18, of choking her during an argument in the early hours of Sunday, her dad, Sean Canning, told USA Today.
The hard-partying boyfriend allegedly assaulted Rachel Canning in the street. He tried to stop her as she escaped in her car and drove to Denville police headquarters.
At the station, Canning filed a domestic violence complaint against Kitzmiller, and a municipal judge issued a temporary restraining order.
The couple will appear in Superior Court in Morristown on Wednesday for a hearing that will decide whether the restraining order should be made permanent.
Kitzmiller was a sore spot in Canning’s relationship with her parents: They wanted her to break up with him, but the cheerleader refused.
Canning moved out of her parents’ home and started living with her best friend’s father, attorney John Inglesino, and his family.
With his help, she filed a lawsuit against her parents, Sean and Elizabeth Canning, for child support and college costs in February.
But Canning dropped the lawsuit in March and moved back in with her parents. She’s planning to attend Western New England University in the fall on a $56,000 scholarship.
