Off-duty court officers tackle, detain murder suspect

Two unarmed, off-duty court officers tackled a murder suspect and held him for police near Yankee Stadium Friday evening.

The suspect, Jesus Flores, 30, knifed a 43-year-old man in the chest and arm, authorities said. He also allegedly slashed a 27-year-old man in the right hand at East 161st Street and River Avenue in the South Bronx at about 7:15 p.m.

The older man died at Lincoln Hospital soon afterwards.

Flores was taken into custody by the officers, Brian Bishop and Rodolfo Hernandez, who had just finished shifts at Bronx Criminal court. They followed Flores, 30, and grabbed him after they saw him hide the knife.

The fight had started in a McDonald’s.
