Bronx assistant principal accused of smacking teacher

An assistant principal who once said that students “need to have experiences … to write about” was busted about noon Friday for smacking a female teacher inside a Bronx elementary school as students looked on, police said.

Josette Joseph, 57, was charged with harassment and assault for the altercation in an auditorium at PS 49 with the 54-year-old teacher, who was not identified.

The beef took place in full view of students in the auditorium, sources said.

The school is known for having a “dynamic principal” and a “cohesive staff” that supervises field trips to local police stations and museums, according to an Inside Schools profile.

“In order for them to write, they need to have experiences,” Joseph told Inside Schools. “We make sure they have plenty of experiences to write about.”

Joseph, who has worked at the school since August 2000, was appointed assistant principal in 2002 and makes $117,068 per year, according to Department of Education records.

School officials refused to comment on the incident at the school at 383 E. 139 St. in Mott Haven.
