She made the trek on the ancient fortification with Sasha, 12, and Malia, 15, on a smoggy afternoon in Mutianyu, a popular tourist destination northeast of Beijing.

Obama dressed all in black for the excursion. Sasha wore a t-shirt that read “Merci Beau Coup.”

Marian Robinson, Michelle Obama’s mother, is along for the China junket but skipped the hike.

Earlier, the family lunched on Chinese noodles, dumplings and salads and a restaurant in the nearby town.

At the wall, Chinese officials reported had ordered vendors to stop selling t-shirts that show President Obama wearing a Mao hat.
