Witnesses testify about murder over hair weave insult

Two young women who witnessed the Brooklyn murder sparked by one teen’s insult of another girl’s hair weave testified Tuesday in Supreme Court about the bizarre argument.

Prosecutors allege Denzel Holder, 21, fatally shot Shawn Williams, 19, after Holder’s gal pal, Shatasia Meggett, made fun of Williams’ girlfriend’s hair extension.

“[Meggett] was talking about her hair,” said Faith Phillip, 20, a friend of Meggett’s who was walking with her when the August 2011 fight began. “After that, [Meggett] and the girl started arguing about whether we were talking about her.

That argument led to Holder shooting Williams, prosecutors have said.

“He shot the boy,” Phillip said.

Another Meggett friend, Marissa Lowe, 20, testified that Williams’ girlfriend threw a bottle at Meggett.

“When she threw the bottle it got Shatasia hyped,” Lowe said.

Defense attorney Gregory Watts has said his client was at the shooting, but wasn’t the gunman.

Holder faces charges including intentional murder, a class A felony that could get him life in prison.
