Ex-CEO of Guggenheim Media joins Scout

Ross Levinsohn, who was out as CEO of Guggenheim Digital Media, in June, is the new executive chairman of Scout Media.

Levinsohn will once again be teaming up with James Heckman, Scout’s CEO and founder. Heckman had exited as head of global media strategy for Yahoo! shortly after new CEO Marissa Mayer nixed his plan to aggressively remake the company.

Heckman has backing from Bob Pittman’s venture fund, the Pilot Group.

Scout has also combined with the assets of Pittman’s North American Membership Group, which publishes men-focused titles, including North American Hunter and PGA Tours.

Pilot last year acquired sport media network Scout.com from Fox Sports.

Levinsohn and Heckman had worked together previously at Yahoo!, where Levinsohn was the interim CEO and Heckman served as the head of global media strategy.

Scout Media also revealed that a number of refugees from Alpha Media, parent of Maxim, are coming aboard.

Ben Madden, who was the president of the title and its Web site — until its takeover by Sardar Biglari, is the chief revenue officer of Scout.

Dan Bova, who quit as editor-in-chief of Maxim shortly after Biglari’s takeover in February, apparently quietly joined Scout Media where he was unveiled on Thursday as the editor-in-chief.
