Jets rookie safety Calvin Pryor sustains head injury

CORTLAND — The Jets drafted safety Calvin Pryor in May to dole out big hits. On Saturday, he took one of his own.

Pryor left practice after suffering a head injury during a punt drill. He was scheduled to undergo concussion testing later Saturday.

“With [head injuries] you’re always going to side on being cautious,” coach Rex Ryan said. “That’s what we’re doing. Whether it’s a concussion or not, I’m not sure. We’ll see how it progresses.”

Pryor was not permitted to speak to the media because of the injury, but Saturday night, he tweeted: “I’m fine everyone…no worries.”

The Jets took Pryor with the 18th pick overall in this year’s draft. Pryor was known at Louisville for his huge hits. He is competing with Dawan Landry and Antonio Allen for a starting safety spot.

Ryan said the injury occurred with Pryor playing personal protector on the punt team.

“He had a good collision and things like that,” Ryan said.
