Mom who was brutally beaten with cane by son dies

A 94-year-old Brooklyn woman who cops said was savagely beaten with her cane by her own son died Monday morning – and now the son will face murder charges, law-enforcement sources said.

Former FEMA worker Mark Farrell, 64, was charged with attempted murder and assault after cops said he allegedly confessed to beating and trying to smother his mom, Dorothy Farrell, inside their Marine Park home on March 3.

Farrell was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition after the attack, where she lived a week before dying there at about 10:30 a.m., cops said.

Farrell’s attempted murder charge will be upgraded to murder now that his mother died, a law-enforcement source said.

“The defendant repeatedly struck his 94-year-old mother with a cane,” prosecutors said at Farrell’s criminal court arraignment March 4. “[Dorothy] is currently in critical condition and is likely to die … there are also allegations the defendant smothered [Dorothy] with a pillow.”

Farrell told police his mom wanted to die and he was just trying to assist her with her wish when he attacked her as she slept on a couch, law enforcement sources said.
