Amazon: Try Fire TV free for 30 days

Amazon is offering some customers a free 30-day trial of its new $99 Fire TV set-top box after it debuted to mixed reviews.

The e-tailer will ship the gizmo — which allows users to stream movies, shows, games and more through their TV sets — to customers free of charge.

If they decide they don’t like it after a month, they can return the device at no cost, according to an Engadget report.

Amazon execs debuted the device in early April, touting its speed and ease of use as advantages over rival offerings like Roku, Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast.

But the device didn’t do much for analysts or consumers who saw it as another me-too gadget that offered much of the same content and functionality.

Since then, Amazon has struck an exclusive deal with HBO that gives Amazon Prime members access to HBO content without an HBO membership. The deal was widely as a big selling point for the Fire TV as well.
