The Olsen Twins’ 5 Most Spook-tacular looks

Today isn’t just Friday the 13th, it’s also Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s 28th birthdays. It’s a fitting date for the child stars-turned-fashion darlings to be celebrating, given that their style almost always reflects an eerily good mix of designer and vintage finds. That and they really, really love black.

Here are five of their most frightfully chic red carpet looks over the years:

Mixing it up at NYFW (2006)

Sometimes just the teensiest pop of color can make all the difference.
During Badgley Mischka’s fall 2006 presentation, the pint-size starlet donned a dusty rose gown with a black moto jacket, adding a touch of luxe to the outfit.
Mary-Kate, on the other hand, stuck with a single hue for bold results.

Demure for Christian Dior (2006)

At the Christian Dior spring/summer 2007 presentation in Paris, Mary-Kate flaunted her DGAF flare by donning a plum gown with a red cap.
Meanwhile, Ashley spiced up her black-and-white ensemble by adding a structured dark green bag.

Long before bustiers and pastels became runway staples, the Olsens tried their hand at those trends. During a private party in London for their contemporary line Elizabeth and James, Ashley sported a loose-fitting bustier with leather slacks.
Not to be outdone by her monochromatic-loving sister, Mary-Kate opted for a watercolor-patterned top paired with an oversize blazer, black shorts and knee-high boots.

Bug-eyed beauties (2010)

If Vogue editrix Anna Wintour can pull off wearing shades any time of day the Olsens can, too. At the opening-night production of “Lend Me a Tenor,” Mary-Kate and Ashley not only rocked their signature black frocks, but winter-white clutches and bug-eyed shades.
While the classic bags definitely brighten up their ensembles, the sunnies say “I’m too cool to care.”

Black, black and more black at the CFDAs (2013)

When accepting an award for the CFDA’s Accessories Designers of the Year, talented twosome decided to make a stylish under-statement. Instead of sporting bold summer shades to the event this month, Mary-Kate and Ashley opted for their favorite one — black.
