Grammys draw over 28M viewers

The Grammy Awards on Sunday night drew 28.5 million viewers to CBS, on par with its audience from 2013.

It was the second largest audience for the awards show in 21 years, behind the 2012 Grammys which aired the day after Whitney Houston’s death and drew nearly 40 million viewers. Among adults 18-49, the key demo for advertisers, the telecast fell 2 percent from last year.

Sunday’s show ran a marathon three hours and 45 minutes, 15 minutes longer than last year’s show and 10 minutes longer than the 2013 Academy Awards.

The night’s big winner included Daft Punk, who won album of the year for “Random Access Memories” and record of the year for their summer hit “Get Lucky” and Lorde, whose song “Royals” earned the title of record of the year and best pop solo performance.
