Injured Beason, Amukamara slated to return to practice Monday

Jon Beason is expected to be removed from the reserve/physically unable to perform list on Saturday, and he is scheduled to practice Monday after missing training camp and all five preseason games with a right foot injury.

That is the news the Giants wanted and expected to hear about their starting middle linebacker, who suffered ligament damage and a small fracture to the sesamoid bone during a spring practice.

Another defensive starter, cornerback Prince Amukamara, missed the last two preseason games with a strained groin and said he has been cleared for full work beginning with Monday’s practice.

“I am expecting to do everything at practice,” Amukamara said. “I expect for them to treat me as if I wasn’t injured. I am doing everything.”

It appears FB Henry Hynoski, forced out of the game Friday night, avoided serious injury. Coach Tom Coughlin said Hynoski has a shoulder contusion and already is feeling better.

Wide receiver Mario Manningham has a strained calf.

“Anytime you have an injury that occurs at the final hour, it does add another dimension to the selection that perhaps you didn’t want to deal with,” Coughlin said.

John Jerry played a preseason-high 56 snaps against the Patriots, starting at right guard in place of Brandon Mosley, who sat out with a back issue.

Coughlin said it was Jerry’s best showing of the summer. Mosley is expected to be able to return to practice on Thursday.

Coughlin prefers to keep only two quarterbacks. If that’s the case, it will be Eli Manning and Ryan Nassib, meaning Curtis Painter will be waived.

“In an ideal world, you would keep two quarterbacks,” Coughlin said. “While it’s ideal, whether or not it’s best for our team, I am not at liberty say right now.”
