Horror as man is killed by train, bystanders hurt by body parts

A man was struck and killed Tuesday by a New Jersey Transit in New Brunswick, and four people were hurt after being struck by pieces of his body, police said.

According to witnesses, the victim was leaning in the path of the oncoming train from the station platform when he was struck and fatally injured at about 5 pm..

One refused medical attention, while three others were transported to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. The afternoon train carrying about 300 people  was traveling northbound during the incident, which shut down the Albany Street platform and suspended inbound service on the Northeast Corridor between Trenton and Metropark.

Outbound trains were subject to 30 minutes delays.

Investigators from several law enforcement agencies, including the NJ Transit police, were on the scene.

The agency said delays were caused by “a trespasser incident.”

The train was headed to New York from Trenton.

There were no injuries on board the train.
