Woodson gets new gig as assistant with Clippers

Mike Woodson landed his next contract before Carmelo Anthony got his.

The former Knicks coach has agreed to join Doc Rivers’ staff with the Clippers, CBSSports.com reported on Wednesday, citing an NBA source.

The NBA source also told CBSSports.com the Clippers are looking to hire former Nets coach Lawrence Frank, who was demoted from assistant coach last season by since-departed head coach Jason Kidd, and Wizards assistant Sam Cassell.

Woodson, 56, was fired by new Knicks president Phil Jackson on April 21 after the team went 37-45 and failed to reach the postseason.

The Clippers’ staff needed reinforcements with Kevin Eastman moving into the team’s front office and Alvin Gentry (Warriors) and Tyronn Lue (Cavaliers) taking jobs elsewhere.

Woodson took over for Mike D’Antoni March 14, 2012 and led the Knicks to a 54-win campaign in 2012-13 and a berth in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
