Prison guard who sexually abused inmate gets 16 months

A former prison guard and counselor at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn was hit with a 16-month sentence in Brooklyn federal court Wednesday for sexually abusing an inmate.

Theodore Raines, 60, told the female prisoner that he could help get her phone privileges reinstated after she committed a prison infraction if she had sex with him, prosecutors said.

Initially charged with rape, Raines was allowed to plead to a lesser sexual-abuse rap that carries a far lower sentence after insisting the sex was voluntary.

The woman and a second inmate who claims that Raines abused her are suing the federal government.

Sexcapades between guards and inmates at the lockup made headlines after guard Nancy Gonzalez had a son following jailhouse trysts with cop killer Ronell Wilson.
