An estranged husbandhas landed in jail after cops said he was involved in a brutal, messy stabbing that he carried out in a “passive-aggressive manner.”
The “victim”? A watermelon.
Carmine Cervellino, of Thomaston, Conn., was arraigned Monday on charges of threatening and disorderly conduct.
Police said Thomaston’s decision to whack the watermelon was a clear message to his wife, Carol, who had tried to rat him out to cops on July 4 after she allegedly found marijuana and drugs in his toolbox.
She told authorities she took pictures of the contraband with a cellphone camera, then stashed them away in her room.
But when police came to the couple’s home to investigate, they found nothing.
The toolbox was also gone.
Carmine, 49, was not arrested, and no charges were filed.
But when Carol returned home she found a watermelon on the counter with a large butcher knife in it, police said.
Seconds later, Carmine walked in and without saying a word began slicing and stabbing the watermelon into little pieces.
The fruit never had a chance.
The frightened wife took out her trusty cellphone camera again, this time to capture a picture of the dripping, sticky carnage.
Then she called the cops.
She told police that Carmine was resorting to “passive-aggressive” tactics to “intimidate her because he is angry at her,” according to a police report.
Carmine, who was arrested Saturday, could not be reached for comment.
He was released after posting a $500 bond, and a judge referred the case to Connecticut Family Services.
Cops said Carmine and his wife are going through a divorce.
It was unclear if the couple is still living together in their marital home.
Carol was elected to the Thomaston Board of Education last year.
She and her husband have two sons, according to her candidate biography.
